Student Leadership at Stokesley School

Student voice is incredibly important to us at Stokesley School, and we believe that having the opportunity to use and share their voice helps students to feel a part of our wider school community.

We are thrilled that we have over 150 students who belong to our student leadership programme with representation across all year groups from Y7-13. All students are welcome to apply to be a student leader, whether that’s being on our team of Senior Student Leaders in the Sixth form, or acting as a House Rep, year Rep or Council Representative lower down the school.

Traditionally, we have always had our Senior student leaders including School Captains and deputy School Captains in the Sixth FormTheir duties include working alongside our Senior Leadership Team to promote our school at community events including Stokesley Show and representing our school and Sixth Form at school events including our celebration and open evenings.

Our School Captains and their deputies meet fortnightly with the 14 House Captains and a member of the leadership team to consider requests from the student body and devise our meeting agendas, action plans and future steps.

Over the last two years, we have developed and created new layers to our Student Leadership Programme so that more students can be involved, with an increasing number of them taking on active leadership roles in a range of difference capacities.

The most recent development is that of our 11 thematic councils, each of which is made up with between 5-20 students across all year groups, all of whom have applied for their positions. These councils meet half termly with a member of staff and are working towards a project over the course of the year.

The current councils are:

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Curriculum
  • Digital Innovation
  • Reading and Literacy
  • Community
  • Safeguarding
  • Behaviour and Safety
  • Careers
  • Wellbeing and Inclusion
  • Food and Facilities
  • Environment and Sustainability
