GCSE Options at Stokesley School
At Stokesley School, we believe in offering students a broad and balanced curriculum that allows them to explore their interests while building a strong foundation for future study and careers.
In Year 9, students begin the GCSE options process, which is designed to give them both structure and flexibility. All students study a core curriculum that includes:
- English Language and English Literature
- Mathematics
- Science (Combined or Triple)
- Physical Education (non-examined)
- Personal Development, our LIFE curriculum (including PSHE and Careers Education)
Alongside these core subjects, students are given the opportunity to choose four additional subjects from a range of GCSE and vocational qualifications. These are selected from option blocks, which are carefully constructed to ensure a wide variety of subject combinations are possible.
The process includes:
- An Options Evening for students and families to explore subjects and speak with teachers
- Guidance sessions with tutors and senior staff
- A detailed Options Booklet outlining course content, assessment methods, and progression routes
- Support from our Careers Team to help students make informed decisions
We encourage students to choose subjects they enjoy, are good at, and that support their future aspirations, whether that’s A-levels, apprenticeships, or other pathways.
Our aim is to ensure every student leaves Key Stage 4 with a set of qualifications that reflect their strengths and open doors to future success.
