Our Curriculum at Stokesley School

At Stokesley School and Sixth Form College, our curriculum is designed to inspire, challenge, and support every student to be the best they can be. We are proud to offer a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum that promotes academic excellence, personal development, and preparation for life beyond school.

Our Vision

We want our students to be:

  • Highly engaged, intrigued, and ambitious learners
  • Prepared for their next steps, whether that be GCSEs, A-levels, apprenticeships, university, or employment
  • Respectful and tolerant citizens, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to thrive in a changing world

Curriculum Principles

Our curriculum:

  • Recognises and nurtures high achievement while remaining inclusive and accessible to all
  • Goes beyond the National Curriculum in areas such as the arts, ensuring all students study can access a broad range of subjects and options through to Year 13
  • Is influenced by the local labour market, with a strong emphasis on STEM subjects, particularly at A-level
  • Is underpinned by academic rigour, carefully sequenced learning, and subject specialist expertise

Curriculum Structure

  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9): A broad foundation across all subjects, with a focus on developing curiosity, creativity, and core skills
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11): A strong core curriculum complemented by four free-choice options, allowing students to personalise their learning
  • Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form): A wide range of A-level and vocational qualifications, including the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), to support progression to higher education, apprenticeships, or employment

Empowering Our Learners

We believe that the best curriculum is one that is carefully planned, expertly delivered, and constantly evolving. Our Directors of Faculty and subject specialists work collaboratively to ensure that learning is coherent, knowledge is retained over time, and students are well-prepared for their final assessments and future pathways.
