Teaching, Learning and Assessment at Stokesley School
At Stokesley School and Sixth Form College, our approach to teaching, learning and assessment is rooted in our core values: ambitious, ready, and respectful. We are committed to delivering high-quality education that challenges, supports, and inspires every student to achieve their full potential.
Teaching and Learning
Our teaching is underpinned by:
- High expectations for all students, regardless of background or starting point
- Expert subject knowledge, delivered by passionate and well-trained staff
- Carefully sequenced curriculum plans that build knowledge and skills over time
- A focus on engagement, curiosity, and independence in the classroom
- A commitment to inclusive practice, ensuring all learners can access and succeed in their studies
We believe that great teaching is the most powerful lever for student success. Our staff engage in regular professional development and collaborative planning to ensure lessons are purposeful, responsive, and reflective of the latest educational research.
Assessment
Assessment at Stokesley School is used to:
- Identify gaps in knowledge and understanding
- Inform teaching and curriculum planning
- Support students in knowing how to improve
- Track progress over time and ensure all students are on course to meet or exceed their targets
We use a combination of formative (ongoing) and summative (end-of-unit or term) assessments, alongside regular feedback, to help students take ownership of their learning and make sustained progress.
A Culture of Reflection and Improvement
We are a reflective school. Through regular lesson observations, student voice, and data analysis, we continuously evaluate and refine our teaching and assessment practices. Our aim is to ensure that every student receives the best possible learning experience, every day.
